The Govt of India, Ministry of Finance, vide Notification No. 18/2025‑Customs (ADD), dated 23.06.2025, levied definitive anti‑dumping duties on imports of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) from Iran and Qatar.
Linear Alkyl Benzene / LAB, is a crucial raw material used in detergents and was found to be exported at below normal price and, hence, harming domestic manufacturers through price undercutting and market share erosion.
These Anti Dumping Duty Rates vary from exporter to exporter as follow:
- USD 14 per MT for Iran Chemical Industries Investment Co.;
- USD 54 per MT for other Iranian sources or re‑exports;
- USD 31 per MT for SEEF Limited of Qatar; and
- USD 62 per MT for other Qatari producers or transshipments.
This Anti Dumping Duties imposed on LAB, will be applicable for a period of five years unless modified or amended and have to be paid in Indian rupees based on the exchange rate applicable on date of the BoE.
This has been introduced with the aim in mind to level the playing field for domestic LAB producers under WTO compliant trade laws.
